The Sky is Falling

August 31 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Satellites and rockets, launched into space by the hundreds for decades, are left as space junk when they no longer work. It is estimated that millions of pieces of debris of various sizes are orbiting the Earth right now. Even a small chunk of debris is travelling fast enough to damage or even destroy a spacecraft or satellite that happens to be in its path. These objects are capable of remaining in Earth orbit for a long time until eventually pulled back to Earth by gravity, a process that could take years or even decades. Join former NASA engineer, Linda Dawson, as she discusses the dangers posed by space junk and why we should be concerned about it.
